This graduate course examines the philosophical ideas and traditions that shape educational purpose, curriculum, teaching, learning, assessment and the role of schools in society. Learners explore Judeo-Christian, Greek, medieval, Renaissance, Enlightenment, modern and contemporary perspectives, considering how beliefs about reality, knowledge, values and human nature become visible in educational practice.
Grounded in Caribbean educational contexts and the Seventh-day Adventist commitment to integrating faith and learning, the course invites critical comparison, reasoned dialogue and reflective application. Through interactive learning objects, educational dilemmas and personal-philosophy activities, learners develop and articulate a defensible philosophy of education that connects intellectual inquiry, whole-person formation, ethical responsibility and service to God and humanity.
